Start with the goal

What should the viewer understand or do after watching? Choose a primary goal: introduce your business, explain a service, recruit or document an initiative. “Make a video” is a format request, not yet a communication objective.

Identify the audience and channels

Specify who will watch and where: your website, LinkedIn, an event or an internal presentation. Context affects length, tone, framing and subtitles.

Choose the essential message

List the core idea, supporting examples and people who can speak about them. Existing materials and visual references are helpful when you explain what you like about them.

Describe practical constraints

Include locations, contributor availability, access restrictions, approvals and the desired launch date. A production schedule needs time for preparation, shooting, editing and feedback.

Agree the deliverables and budget

Define the main film, shorter versions, languages, subtitles and aspect ratios. Sharing a budget range helps determine a realistic scope. The proposal should clarify usage rights, review stages and what is included.

A useful starting brief

Send your objective, audience, message, references, dates, locations, deliverables and budget range. It is fine to leave open questions: the first conversation is there to resolve them.
